Weight loss is the process of decreasing body weight by implementing a balanced diet, engaging in consistent physical exercise, and making necessary lifestyle adjustments. Metabolic Rate: The efficiency of the body’s metabolism also influences weight loss, as it affects how effectively calories are burned both at rest and during physical activity.

When a consistent calorie deficit is maintain, the body begins to utilize stored fat for energy, resulting in healthcare. Effective and sustainable healthcare generally involves a combination of a well-balanced diet and regular exercise, rather than depending solely on extreme dietary restrictions or excessive physical activity.

Weight loss medications are generally prescribed for individuals classified as obese or those suffering from weight-related health issues who have been unsuccessful in achieving healthcare through diet and exercise alone. These medications function through various mechanisms:

  1. Appetite Suppressants  

Mechanism: These drugs diminish appetite or enhance sensations of fullness, thereby aiding in the regulation of food consumption.  

Examples: Phentermine, Diethylpropion.  

  1. Fat Absorption Inhibitors  

Mechanism: These agents inhibit the absorption of certain fats from ingested food, which are subsequently eliminated from the body.  

Examples: Orlistat (Alli, Xenical).  

  1. Combination Medications  

Mechanism: These formulations merge two or more drugs that facilitate healthcare through diverse pathways, including appetite reduction and increased fullness.  

Examples: Phentermine/topiramate (Qsymia), Bupropion/naltrexone (Contrave).  

  1. GLP-1 Receptor Agonists

Mechanism: Initially developed for diabetes treatment, these medications assist in regulating blood sugar levels and encourage weight loss by delaying gastric emptying and enhancing feelings of satiety.  

Examples: Liraglutide (Saxenda), Semaglutide (Wegovy).  

  1. Metformin  

Mechanism: While primarily utilized for diabetes management, Metformin may also lead to modest weight loss by enhancing insulin sensitivity and curbing appetite.  

Dosage of Weight Loss

The dosage of weight loss medications is contingent upon the specific medication and the individual’s requirements. It is crucial to follow the guidelines set forth by the prescribing physician meticulously. The following are some general suggestions:

1.Phentermine: Generally prescribed at a dosage of 15-37.5 mg once daily, typically taken in the morning.  

  1. Orlistat: Recommended dosage ranges from 60-120 mg taken three times daily with meals that contain fat.  

3.Qsymia (Phentermine/Topiramate): Initiate treatment with 3.75 mg/23 mg daily, with potential adjustments based on individual response.  

4.Contrave (Bupropion/Naltrexone): Start with a single tablet (8 mg/90 mg) each day, gradually increasing the dosage to two tablets administered twice daily.  

5.Saxenda (Liraglutide): The treatment begins with an initial dosage of 0.6 mg per day, which is gradually increased on a weekly basis until a maintenance dose of 3 mg per day is achieved.  

6.Wegoby (Semaglutide): Start with 0.25 mg weekly, with monthly increments leading to a maintenance dose of 2.4 mg weekly.  

It is imperative to utilize these medications under the guidance of a healthcare professional to ensure both safety and efficacy.
